At Severn Beach Primary School all staff, both teaching and non-teaching, have a responsibility to care for children and to take appropriate action if there are concerns around a child's welfare.

This may also involve referrals and liaising with outside agencies including the Access and Response Team (ART).

There are clearly defined procedures around safeguarding and all staff are kept up to date with these procedures. Training is completed for all Staff annually in September, prior to the start of the new school year.

In addition we ensure that all staff are safe to work with children and have up to date DBS checks and that we follow safer recruitment practises.

The welfare of the children is paramount in our school.

School Security

Our school has electric gates which are only opened when a visitor has clearance form office staff. The school has locks on all external doors. These doors, in the main, are kept locked but are easily opened from inside by children and adults in the event of an emergency. The front door, and door to the playground,  are fitted with a door entry security system or access buttons. This is to ensure the safety of the children and staff. We have a secure perimeter fence.

Please let us know if there are any changes to the arrangements for picking up children. Sometimes the older children in Years 5 and 6 like to walk home on their own. In this case we will need a letter giving parental permission.

All visitors to the school must sign the digital visitor’s book on arrival and departure. This is located in the foyer. By signing the book, visitors are agreeing to adhere to school procedures around safeguarding.

Parking

Severn Beach Primary is located within a quiet village environment.  Please walk to school if at all possible. If you do have to use a car please park legally and have due respect for the local residents’ property.

Parents are not permitted to park on school premises or use the drive as a “drop off” or turning point unless special agreement had been obtained from the headteacher. Sensible parking keeps your child safe.

Our full safeguarding policy can be found on our policies page.

OFSTED findings May 2017:

Safeguarding

  •  The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
  • Current school leaders have provided a new perimeter fence that encircles the school site. Gates are locked once pupils are in school. The safety of pupils is secure. The school’s administrative officer is in charge of the monitoring of checks undertaken on staff, visitors and recruitment. The single central record manifests exemplary practice. Secure processes are in place for monitoring and recording any safeguarding concerns. Staff are trained on how to keep pupils safe from abuse, sexual exploitation, radicalisation and extremism. Staff work sensitively with parents and external agencies to monitor and support the more vulnerable pupils. "
